My Urban Experience

Student Teaching #2

My second student teaching experience was exactly the opposite of my first. I entered a classroom in which the teacher had very little control of the kids and there was virtually no learning taking place, because the teacher had given up. My experience was horrible, but was also very beneficial. I learned about the importance of gaining rapport with the students, being very consistent in my discipline and the importance of engaging students in the learning process. While I did not enjoy the initial weeks of my internship, I now feel that I could enter any learning environment and have a positive affect on the students, because of what I learned the hard way. By the end of my student teaching, I was beginning to enjoy my experience and I was even asked to stay at the school for the final month of the school year as a long term sub in first grade!
